iMac is frequently extremely slow in loading websites and apps

My iMac is frequently extremely slow in loading websites and apps, that infernal colored circle spinning for a long time. It also FREQUENTLY loses connection with the mouse and keyboard, both bluetooth. Specs: 2019 Intel core i5, Retina 5K, 16G memory. The problems started after upgrading to Ventura 13.3.2. Geek Squad were unsuccessful in fixing. Is the computer toast? HDD has plenty of available memory. I've read that it may be a hardware issue that is not fixable, and the Intel processor is ancient.

Have you installed any anti-virus, clean-up, optimizing or VPN software? These apps are not needed on the Mac and will often conflict with the smooth performance of the macOS.

Also, I recommend that you run an EtreCheck evaluation of your Mac. EtreCheck is a safe and recommended utility from a trusted developer and respected ASC contributor. The diagnostic app gathers important info about your hardware and software and reports it back to you. It is very highly regarded and meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help others help you troubleshoot and resolve your Mac problems. The EtreCheck report will not include any personally identifiable info.

Please navigate to EtreCheck.com and download the free version. Be sure to enable full disk access when you install the app. Once you’ve run the app and created your report please post it with your reply to this message.

You must upload the full report. To see how, please click >  How to use Add Text when posting… EtreCheck Report.

We can use the EtreCheck report to look for the things that may be causing your problem and advise how to correct them.

My RAM is original and from Apple. I have not added anything to the computer, it came straight from Apple. I am in Texas, not out of the US.

I'll do the DriveDX thing. Question: it's looking more and more like I may need to get a new machine. I love my 27 inch display and I see that it is no longer available in the usual configuration of an iMac, which has a 24 inch display. Would it be possible for me to just get a new M2 Mac mini and use it along with my present 27 inch retina display bypassing the screwed up iMac?

Thank you, rkaufmann87, for your suggestions. I've talked to Apple store and the external SSD idea would definitely be less expensive. Would you be comfortable in suggestion specs for what kind of SSD to get? Apple's website has some for sale, such as a "LaCie 1TB Rugged SSD Pro Ext Drive with T'bolt 3" for $299.95. Are some SSDs faster than others? I'm going to check other websites for prices and availability.

I think this is something that I can do myself, unless you advise against it. Maybe you or one of the others in this thread who have been so helpful could just sketch out the procedure.

Thank you so much for your interest and help.
