Three super n00bie questions about Compressor

I am a 100% Compressor n00bie. My goal was to use Compressor to export my finished Final Cut Pro projects, because I often create several <1 min. shorts... and I want to be able to continue working in Final Cut Pro without having to stop each time and wait for FCP to process each project.

After watching some YouTube videos, I was able to get it done... for the most part. However, I still have some questions that I cannot seem to find in the documentation.

QUESTION 1: How to have Compressor stop adding on to the final file name of the projects I export.

  1. On the far left, I clicked the [+] and created a new Setting
  2. Under General Properties, I named it... Name: For YouTube

Now whenever I export a project using Compressor... it always adds this "For YouTube" to the final file name. So... if the project were called... "5-1-23_Monday" in FCP... if I export it using Compressor... it shows up as: 5-1-23_Monday - For YouTube.mp4. I just want it to be 5-1-23_Monday.mp4 like things were before I started using Compressor.

QUESTION 2: How can I add multiple projects from FCP into a single batch in Compressor?

When I finish a project in Final Cut Pro, and I want to send it to Compressor, here's what I do.

  1. Click to select the project in the Browser of FCP.
  2. Go to: File > Send to Compressor > New Batch.

This works great. However... if I select another project inside the FCP browser, and also want to send it to compressor... I still only see... Send to Compressor > New Batch. There are two other options about iTunes and IMF Packages. (no clue???)

I want to be able to crush out 10 projects quickly in FCP... and send them all to Compressor, into one "Batch" so that I can go throw my "For YouTube" setting on it (see above)... and then... bam... export all 10 projects at once in one... "Batch." I do not see how this is possible.

QUESTION 3: Can I specify exactly where I want the finished exported video files to arrive?

When I created this Setting... under General Properties, I see a dropdown labeled, "Default Location." If I click it, I see that I can select None, Desktop, Movies, or Source. I imagine that "Default location" means that this is where the finished .mp4 file will arrive once exported.

So far, I have left this setting as "None"... and... it sends the finished .mp4 files to my "Movies" folder. I have a specific folder that I created on my Mac where I'd like all my exported videos to live. Is it possible to make it send the videos there? Or do I just have to move them there from my Movies folder after each export?

The answer to question 3 also seems straighforward: in any Batch in Compressor, you can choose the destination.

Right click on the selected location, choose Other and then navigate tho the desired folder.

Click the Locations button at the op of the sidebar. Click the + button at the bottom. Create as many custom location folders as you want. To apply it to the clips in a job select them all and drag the location you want from the sidebar onto one of the clips. It will be applied to all selected clips just as you can apply a custom repeat to all the clips in the job.

This is great! However... I guess it is not possible to set this as a "Default". I thought that pretty much the main reason anyone would want to work with Compressor is because you can set a bunch of defaults so that you can quickly zap finished projects into exported video files, ready to be delivered.

For my use cases, however, I will still have to...

  1. Rename each file name to counteract Compressor's auto-naming convention
  2. Set the location for each file I will be exporting
  3. Add projects to a "Batch" from FCP... all at once, since there is not option for: "File > Send to Compressor > Add to existing Batch ##"

Oh well. I should have read the documentation and asked online BEFORE buying Compressor.
