No, that means the message was delivered using SMS rather than iMessage.


There are a variety of reasons this can occur, from their device not being connected to a data network to various issues with the user's cellular carrier.


If you have the option to do so turned on in your phone, your message may also be sent as an SMS if sending via a data connection to iMessage fails for any reason.
