Vanishing attachments on old emails on iphone

Recently I’ve needed lots of communications with an attorney. He has sent me many emails (Gmail) with attachments. I read them and, of course, save for future reference When I return to the emails later, the attachments are not there. Why? Is there something I need to do to preserve them?

Hello ruby1big2,

When you say that you save them, could you explain a bit more about how you download those attachments? Or do you just read them but otherwise take no additional steps? In Mail on iPhone, you can download attachments and save them either as an image/photo or to Files, with both options explained at Download email attachments in Mail on iPhone - Apple Support. So we want to see if you're following those steps or a different route.

It is possible that Gmail does not retain attachments depending on the read status, but you'd do best to confirm with Google in that regard. We can certainly help on the iPhone side.

Cheers!
