Apple “System Font” available in TextEdit?

Dear Community,

in Monterey, Notes by default use a font named System Font. Looks great. I’d like to use it in TextEdit, too, but it doesn’t seem to be available there. Is there a way to access it?

Thanks!

Do you have a font called San Francisco or SF Pro Text? That's supposed to be the system font in systems after Catalina. However, other sources say Helvetica Neue or Courier New. You'll just have to test them out and see which meet your requirements.

Personally for clarity and ease of reading I prefer sans fonts like Times New Roman, Charter Roman, etc.

No font by the name SF Pro Text or San Francisco, no. Not in FontBook, nor in any of the Libraries (User, System, top level). But even if I had, the question would remain: What font is it that from within Notes is called System Font (Default)? Actually that most likely isn’t its name, but only the indication that so so displayed font is the default system font, leaving out the name of that font. It doesn’t seem to be SF Pro Text or San Francisco, because that is nowhere to be found.
