Mid 2011 imac
I use safari and Chrome as my search engines bit have recently heard of risks with Chrome. I am not able to update Chrome because of 10.11. Safari seems to be slow and at times directs me to Chrome?!?!

A mid 2011 iMac can be updated to High Sierra OS X 10.13.6 but no later.
With High Sierra, the latest version of Safari is 13.1.2 and I would not recommend using that as there have been a number of security updates since that version.
For security reasons, I would recommend using a 3rd party browser that supports running their current version with High Sierra. Chrome and Firefox are two possibilities. Either would be more secure than the old version of Safari.

As FoxFith says...
Mostly you just need a more modern Browser than Safari on Mojave, or High Sierra like Firefox or Brave.
