Gmail with Apple tv 4k device

I'm receiving an 'Unable to log in' error when trying log into my new Apple tv 4k device using my gmail account associated with my appleid. However it shows up as one of 'My Devices' when I am logged into my account on apple.com. I do not own any other apple products so I am attempting to log in manually. My appleid and password are both correct. I've tried multiple times to log in. Please help if you can and point me in the right direction to resolve.

Thanks for letting us know. I was actually confused by your question because the Apple TV OS has zero integration with Google as far as I know. Your Apple ID simply uses an email address as your user ID and occassionally communicates with you via email. I guess you're using your gmail address as your Apple ID. Cool.

It's true that Apple TV setup is less convenient without an iPhone that's used with your Apple ID. Glad you got it working in the stand alone setup mode.

The issue seems to have resolved itself. Not sure what the fix is though.
