Disabled phone

I would like to recover pictures and contacts from my deceased husbands phone. I waited a month for Apple to send me a code to unlock it, and/or change his itunes password. I followed all of the steps, and the phone is still disabled, and says to connect to iTunes, however, nothing happens when I try to connect it to my laptop. I really don't want to wipe the phone with the restore function, because that defeats the purpose. I signed into his iCloud, and it is completely blank. I don't think he ever knew how to set it up. So everything is locked in the phone and feels hopeless. So many memories and pictures from family outings. Is there any way to unlock the phone?

With a disabled iPhone you have no option but to erase it first. It has been that way for many years and is presumably a security measure. Once it has been erased you can reset it. The normal procedure is to then restore it from a backup which apparently you do not have. The general procedure is outlined in this support article --> If you see an iPhone or iPad unavailable message or Security Lockout screen - Apple Support

Recovering Contacts and Photos:

Sync Through iCloud:

Using the same Apple ID: First, enable Contacts in iCloud on a different Apple device. If they were singed in of the same account, then they would show up, sure enough in the Contacts and Photos apps on the other device

For reference...

Recovering Photos:

Loss of data is something you would have agreed to upon opening an Apple Account. So, if the following does not work, then they are gone. That's just the way it is :(

Four Tactics to Try:

A. Start here: If you're Missing Photos or Videos in the Photos app - Apple Support

B. Check iCloud, Directly:

For Photos: Go here, and see if they reside in iCloudhttps://www.icloud.com/photos

C. Restore your iPhone from a Backup:

Have any backups of this iPhone prior to this occurrence? If so, restore your iPhone from one that has these photos (the most recent backup, ideally). If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always back up your device for recovery purposes. Important: Back up you iPhone prior to performing this restoration, should anything go wrong from here on out.

D. Where Else to Check:

  1. PC
  2. PDA
  3. eMail
  4. Mac Device
  5. Cloud Storage
  6. Android Phone
  7. USB Flash Drive
  8. External Hard drive
  9. Secure Digital Card
  10. Compact Flash Card
