Video recorded with iPhone with muted audio
Has there been any fixes to the issue of videos being recorded using the native iphone camera with the sound muted and the volume options grayed out? I have an iPhone 13 pro max.

Hi SJcampbell,
Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! If you're experiencing an issue with the microphones on your device, the steps below may help:
If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working
Clear the microphones
1. Remove any screen protectors, films, or cases from your iPhone.
2. Clear any debris from the openings of your iPhone.
Contact Apple Support
If you still sound unclear during calls, recordings, or apps, contact Apple Support to discuss service options.
If you want to try more steps on your own
If you prefer, here are some more steps you can try on your own. You might still need to contact Apple Support after following these steps.
If people can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls
1. Open the Voice Memos app.
2. Tap the Record button, speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording.
3. When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly.
If people can't hear you when you're using speakerphone
1. Open the Camera app.
2. Record a video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
3. Tap the camera chooserto switch to the other camera. Then record another video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
4. When you play back the videos, you should hear your voice clearly.
If the microphone doesn't work in a specific app
1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
2. Make sure that the app is enabled.
3. If the app has permission to access your microphone, or if it isn't listed, contact the app developer.
Hope this helps!
Have a great day.

Hi SJcampbell,
As a way to isolate this concern, review the steps in Record videos with your iPhone camera to ensure that you're selecting appropriate options when recording video. See if it's possible to isolate the behavior to a specific type of video you're capturing or other related settings.
If your microphone is not operating as expected, including not capturing audio for video recording, and the steps from the provided articles didn't help then contacting Apple Support to assess and investigate further would be in order.
Regards.
Hi Lizzy. This does not seem to be an issue of the microphone not working. It is more of an issue of the microphone failing to activate occasionally when the command to record is given.
As stated in my original post, upon replay of the recorded video, the volume function is gray in color, effectively rendering it useless. There is no option to unmute the volume function, turn it up or down.
I hope this better clarifies the issue.
SC.
