Mac OS does not recognize Monterrey installed on an external drive

Hi there,

Here is the situation:

  • Monterrey is installed on a partition of an external drive (4T);
  • my MacBook pro (Intel chip) is running on Sierra (10.12).

After startup, I pressed Option key, but Monterrey OS did not show up simply.

Why?

Would there be a solution to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

Regards,

Wenyuan

PS : However, Monterrey installed on the partition of the external drive worked perfectly well on another MacBook pro where Monterrey is installed.

You should provide us with your Mac's year and model. It may or may not be able to function with Monterey. No mac will operate with an older operating system than the one it initially came with. Also, some newer operating systems will not work. It varies by year and model.
