How to schedule text messages on iPhone

We can schedule text messages and more on iPhone. I did on iOS 16.4.1

Please follow the following steps

  1. Go to shortcuts app
  2. Select Automation window
  3. Create personal automation
  4. Time of the day
  5. Choose the event type(daily, weekly, monthly)
  6. Click next
  7. Select action send message (do check out their various convenient actions by clicking “+” and section “all actions”)
  8. Click on “message” to input message
  9. Click on “recipients” to select receiver of the message
  10. Click next and disable “Ask before sending
  11. Click done.
  12. This automation will have to be manually deleted in order to end its occurrences.

Hope y’all find it helpful! ✌🏽

This is insanely complicated compared to android. I just switched and I like iPhone but I don’t understand what Apple is thinking here. Anyone know if this feature is in the pipeline? I used to schedule texts on android but this shortcut seems circa 1990.

Will admit I've only had iPhones... But gotta agree with the need for "delayed text" capability (like Android) where you can schedule for future (not just daily, weekly, monthly) but also yearly

In fact iOS (with permissions) should scan contact card - birthdays (and anniversaries) and proactively suggest - "Do you want to send a birthday note?" and inform owner "I've sent a note on your behalf!"

Not having a “ SIMPLE” way to schedule a text or set an alarm for specific days/ times on a calendar is TOTALLY INSANE Apple, Why?🤔😳

Being an Android user all my cell phone life ( I just purchased my first iPhone in February) not having this feature on a new iPhone 15 Plus is such a step back!

Also modifying a text message with “ copy, paste, autofill the way it’s set up is not necessary!

Apple, I must have had a faint dream about you announcing a scheduled text message feature. Maybe I’m just thinking of when you announced the edit text feature? Idk… i’m just really sad now cuz I kinda need it and am realizing you don’t have it yet…

Apple doesn't participate here. If you want them to know your thoughts, use the feedback link:

But, no, Apple hasn't announced such a feature.

Is Apple considering the implementation of a feature for scheduling text messages within the Messages/Shortcuts app shortly?

No one here in this user-to-user forum would know the answer to that. And, Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

I still HATE this! I’ve yet to get a message to send when I want…. Everyone can tell me what an idiot I am!
Idc!!!

That is certainly possible.

This is the least intuitive setting and I’m pretty good at IT

What setting? There is no setting to schedule messages to be sent later.

- worked at 3 IT companies! I’m not great, but this is BS! I’m pretty sure anyone with a basic knowledge of how to do anything could create something better! I’ve blocked all responses because I’m tired of hearing how simple it is…. Yeah, no it’s NOT!!!! Get through it all, nothing sends! \

Tell Apple:

And maybe take a breath. Life is too short to be this upset about something that, in the grand scheme of things, is fairly trivial.

No one here in this user-to-user forum could answer that question. Apple doesn't respond to questions here (unless they relate to health ansafety). Nor doesApple read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Perhaps if enough people submit feedback, Apple will change the way they have done things since the beginning of the iPhone.

I FOUND A WAY TO DO IT!

Note: I haven’t tested this yet so if this doesn’t work, I apologize 😅

You can set it to not repeat by adding the “Wait to Return” action at the end of the queue. So it will essentially mark the automation as “paused” until you open the app again. You could also add a notification reminder to delete the shortcut after that so when it reactivates you’re notified :)

it would look like this:

still not as good as Android but it’ll have to do as a workaround for now
