System update when setting up a macbook pro

When setting up a macbook pro a system update was initiated (4.5 Gb). Eventually time remaining message disappeared, progress bar reached its full extent, but back and continue buttons still grayed out. Left it overnight, exactly the same in the morning. Will it complete?
