Messenger Facebook Links Wont Open 16.4.1 (iPad only)

Unless and until Facebook fixes this problem, which they are obviously not in a rush to do, I am using a browser to access Messenger.

Just updated FB and Messenger, and now link in messenger open in FB again on my iPad

iPadOs 17.0.3 !

I pray for this will last ! 🥵

1) Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions and 2) only Facebook can fixa problem with their app. I suggest you check their support options.

Been trying everything they suggested and still not working. I just opened FB and hit the menu button on bottom rt side,then scrolled down to “report a problem” hit that ,then copy and pasted this blog to them. I think if we get enough people doing this it might get some attention as the most likely don’t look at this site or are unaware of the amount of people this is affecting. If anybody’s messenger is doing this,you should do this,don’t think your message won’t count,the more messages,the more likely it will be addressed.

I have the same issue the rest of you do. I cannot open Facebook links in the Messenger app on my iPad but I can on my iPhone. I’ve tried all the suggestions. My only option on the iPad is to log in to Messenger in Safari and open the links from within the browser. It’s not efficient, but it’s less annoying than having to grab the iPhone to do so.

Because Facebook has not properly updated its app. Apple can't do that for them. Apple does provide beta software for developers to use to test their apps. I guess FB has better things to do with its time.

I have been having the same problem with mine and my husbands iPads, we even purchased a new iPad for my husband. If we share a Facebook video to messenger, neither of us can open and play the video in messenger, and messenger kicks us back to Facebook home page. The app works perfectly on our iPhones but not on iPads. I have deleted, updated, reinstalled both apps, had a technician check out the iPads, and all I can find out is that there is a fault in the app. We are both using iOS 17.0.3. This is driving me crazy.

I just tried too and it works! I have iPad OS 16.6.1 so it makes me think it’s a messenger update that has fixed it.

Yes!! I updated messenger and Facebook and the problem has been fixed!!

Yes it’s definitely the messenger update because just updating to 17.1 didn’t fix the problem but after the messenger update it was fixed

Because FB didn't properly update their app. Developers have access to the beta software for months ahead of the release just to avoid this sort of issue.

Yes, it has. It's important to remember that you are not Facebook's customer. You are a source of data they can sell to their actual customer, the advertisers.

Reading all of these we all have the same issue. I’m unsure why apple cannot address this as it’s clearly an issue, plus the steps they’ve provided to resolve it do not work. It’s so frustrating especially when it’s just ignored!

Something blocking between FB Messenger and FB Apps. If I try to go into Account settings from the FB Messenger app - FB App opens but does not go to Account Settings. This happens on the iPad Air only.

Uninstalled both and reinstalled. Logged out on all devices etc... cleared caches... I am thinking it is some sort of security / trust setting on the iPad Air iOS.

Is anyone in Apple support working on this. I’m disabled and bed ridden a lot if the time. It’s super annoying to have to find my phone to open links instead of using my iPad. Used to work and doesn’t now so it must be an update thing. Works on iPhone so what gives. Please help. When my Apple stuff (and I have everything watch, buds,) works, it’s brilliant but this is frustrating. I have done all the suggested fixes.

Keep pestering FB..... It's possible they are simply not bothering to fix anything until after the next round of software updates (today).
