Messenger Facebook Links Wont Open 16.4.1 (iPad only)

With the latest update to 16.4.1, neither of my iPads (mini or air) will open Facebook links shared with me in messenger. I understand the OS has been changed to open within the associated apps and not the browser. Thats fine however, shared Facebook links from messenger wont open in Facebook either. The Facebook app opens to the home page and that's it. Nothing else happens.

I reinstalled both the Facebook and Messenger apps multiple times with no luck. I'm not experiencing this issue on my iPhone or desktop. Only on iPads.

Any feedback appreciated.

Everyone, I found a fix! I know it’s only 2023 so this stuff is pretty complicated for developers. However, here’s what I did (can’t believe I figured this out):

Close Facebook app on iPad
Set iPad on table
Walk away

Haven’t experienced the glitch yet!

Same here, I’ve done all that too, Mine is only one friend that I can’t open any links from him. Yet I can on my phone.

Question to all. In messenger settings gear on your iPad, do you have your cellphone number listed? I do not. Wondering if this is necessary.

I’m having the same problem with my brand new iPad 11 Pro. I follow the link in messenger. It opens Facebook app to the homepage and nothing else.

If someone sends you a link forward it to yourself. It will open from that messenger window. I know it’s not a fix, but it will allow you to see the link.

Can’t open links on FB since upgrade to 16.5. Can open them on my phone.

last time this happened I couldn’t open my bank app. Guess what I had to buy a new iPad. Hmmmm

Same issue here and it’s so frustrating that no fix is being offered by Apple. This is my first iPad too so was super excited to get one but almost now wishing I’d stayed with android!
