I have an older Mac from 2009 with MacOS 10.13.6. Recently I have been receiving supposed "Alerts" that my Mac has viruses or that someone is downloading files from my Mac.
It asks me to "update" my McAffee account and scan my "PC". I have never had McAffee on this computer.
Has anyone else had this occur? Any suggestions on what course to take?

What's missing in your post is WHEN these alerts come up. That makes a difference:
in email? ignore them. they are 100% spam, designed to trick you into sending money to someone who doesn't deserve it.
In your web browser? ignore them - they are bad pop-up ads designed to trick you into sending money to someone who doesn't deserve it. Also consider changing your browsing habits to not visit the sites that are sending these popups.
When you're doing nothing? that's a little more concerning, in which case look at something like the aforementioned MalwareBytes to see if something has snuck in under your radar (e.g. you previously clicked on one of the popups)

You may want to run a Malwarebytes scan.
I plan to run MalwareBytes. I don't believe that I have see any such alerts when I don't have a browser open, but I usually do. Thank you all. I'll let you know.
Won't hurt to run MalwareBytes, but sounds like a scam.
