Memory upgrade

I have just purchased a new iMac with 8 Gb of unified memory (larger capacity machines are virtually impossible to get at the minute) I wanted a higher capacity machine so I would like to increase the unified memory if possible. I would imagine that I could use an external SSD drive if I need extra storage in the future but I would really like to increase the unified memory. Thank you in anticipation.

Current iMac 24-inch models have the CPU. RAM, Storage, and GPU on one chip. RAM cannot be added after the logic board starts down the assembly line. No one, not even Apple, can give you more RAM that what you have now.
