A Cellular Apple Watch pairs with your iPhone, and uses your iPhone's number, assuming your iPhone's cellular carrier supports the Apple Watch. A cellular carrier that supports the Apple Watch will charge approx $10 U.S. to include the Apple Watch on your iPhone plan.

A GPS only Apple Watch can do everything the cellular model can AS LONG AS your iPhone is nearby, where nearby is generally somewhere in the same moderate sized wood framed home.
