Not getting Text/Sound notifications on Lock Screen or when screen is fully locked/off? SOLVED!

To fellow iPhone/apple users:

I found out that you have to go to Messages> Send & Receive> Unselect Email (iCloud email) in the "you can receive iMessages to and reply from" section, at the top...

I don't have any apple watches so I don't know how that will work with your BT devices... appl need to figure that out... i did plenty for them already.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To apple/apple support:

This is 100% not acceptable.

  1. I am a customer, I should not be the one looking up and providing an alternative to this issue (it IS an issue regardless of expected behavior-- see below).
  2. This new OS settings/behavior is NOT user-friendly...
    1. what user would request this?? this probably made sense on the drawing board-- it falls flat in for the consumer market
  3. Further...
    1. if i do not elect to fwd my messages to my other apps, that preference should override the expected behavior-- THAT should be the precedent for when/if i get sounds.
      1. i DID NOT have my other devices selected to receive the messages in "Text message forwarding"
    2. if i do elect to fwd the messages to my other enabled devices, i also have to set up a slew of settings there to receive the notification
    3. any setting, mode, or preference the user elects should be the default NOT this new OS default

For confirmation all that I tested (most users would do as follows):

    • I tested my device with DND mode off,
    • deleted all focus modes,
    • the DND switch on device was off/disabled,
    • all settings in Notifications were enabled,
    • All settings in Messages were enabled,
    • all lock screen settings were enabled,
    • low power mode was off,
    • battery optimization was off,
    • background app refresh was on
    • I even added the number in question to my contacts, and then as a favorite...

you can safely assume at this point, i checked any/all areas notifications could potentially be suppressed by... everything was set to allow the sounds easiest access to the lock screen... NADA

Whatever high-roller investor complained about notifications on their device when they use a lock screen, that influenced the deployment of this, is a boomer! They personally owe me three hours of executive CSM wages for testing & finding a solution for other customers...

Thank you- have a great day!! << to other users... support team can have a nice day too! apple execs need to get it together.

This is insane. I spent hours chatting with apple support, then they called to "troubleshoot" and told me there was no information on troubleshooting for this issue. Ridiculous. Suggested I go to the Genius bar to figure it out.

I appreciate you putting a solution on here. Unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Someone please explain the point of muting messages when your phone is locked. The entire point is to NOTIFY you.

This is insane! I kinda have OCD tracking all of my annoying issues with apple products like these. I just spent a half hour with a senior specialist.

They were clueless. However, after some testing I finally figured it out.

You won't get the alert on your phone when it's locked or closed (black screen) if you have an iwatch and the notification settings are "Mirror My iphone". Turn Iwatch notifcations settings to "Custom" and it should work now.

My iPhone was doing the same (iPhone 13 pro max). Dead air and the lock screen wouldn't even light up when receiving a text notification... Watch would haptic and ding, but it's hard to feel and very quiet when working around any sort of noise at all.

Found the issue to be on my iPad.... This is ridiculous. The issue was solved same as above. I had to remove my icloud mail address from my iPad message settings in order to get my phone to notify me when the lock screen was on. Frustrated for 2 hours for missing notifications.

You can have multiple Caller IDs for iMessage/FaceTime on your device with iMessage/FaceTime.

This can be achieved by changing the Caller ID as shown in the GIF below. (Made on iPhone 6 iOS 12.4.5)

Change the Caller ID before making a FaceTime call. Enjoy privacy...

Caller ID is same as Reachable At IDs

In Order to add more Reachable At IDs (Refer to Picture at the bottom), Log into https://appleid.apple.com with your Apple ID credentials. Under Account Section Click Edit and Add as many as Reachable At Phone Number or Email IDs

GIF for changing Caller ID...

Add more Reachable At in Apple ID

My phone was not making a text notification sound when it was locked but did while it was unlocked. Uselecting my email address in the "Send & Receive" setting did fix this issue for me. There clearly is some problem related to message sounds and having an email address selected.
