Super Drive DVD player won't work on 2017 MBP

I am using a 2017 MBP with Mojave. I only have USB3 ports on the computer. When I plug the player into my dongle/adapter, a message says that the player needs power and I need to plug into a USB on the MBP. Is there any solution for this?
