can a bad mouse cause freezing

Would it be possible that a bad mouse can cause the system to freeze? I thought it was the other way around but my partner thinks that the problem is originating with the mouse freezing. Everything, including the mouse works fine except when the system freezes and that has been often. We worked with Apple online support to make sure other processing was not overwhelming the system and there is more than enough memory. I updated the modem equipment. We have Malwarebytes protection.
