A new problem has emerged today. Now when I try to get a new app from the App Store, it never completes the process and there's no message to explain why. The apps are all free ones. I click to obtain and download them, but the screen just flipss back to the download screen without any downloading. I try again. Same result. Turning in circles.

Start here, check the network connection:
You need to have a good Service and/or Wi-Fi.
If they are On, turn Off Hotspot & VPN.
Charge the battery > 70%.
If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or other Apple services
If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or other Apple services - Apple Support

It's possible though that battery charge was under 70%.
I put it to charge half an hour ago. My attempts at downloading were some 12 hours ago when there would have been more battery power, although I cannot say how much. I'll try to download again. when the phone is fully charged.
II. can enter the App Store and find apps and read about them. Connection to wifi is very good. It's simply that downloading no longer works.
