Carplay Far End hears echo of themselves on a call

I have a '21 VW Atlas. When plugged in USB, Apple Carplay with my 14 Pro Max, people I am talking to on the phone ("the far end") hears echo of themselves as they speak. I do not hear this inside the car or on my end at all ("near end"). They do not hear an echo of me as I speak to them, only when they speak do they hear an echo of themselves.

I see this was posted in January as an issue, but seemingly no real explanation/resolution.

My cellphone service provider is T-Mobile.

When on bluetooth, the issue is not there, but then I don't have access to Apple Carplay.

I previously had a '20 Ford F-150 and an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and this was never an issue.
