Battery daily power varies on Apple Watch

Last week the Apple Watch 5 battery power drained to red (low battery) within 6+ hours, repeated this daily for 4 days with otherwise my normal use on normal days. Then suddenly went back to normal, about 40% remaining after 13 average hours per day for next 2-3 days. Now has returned to rapid drain to red, 15% in 5 hours. Routine is to charge to 100% overnight. Any suggestions? Recently upgraded to latest iOS on the watch.

BTW, my 2nd generation watch I now resumed wearing remains about 75% at days end while I look at the Watch 5 "resting" on the charger from lunch hour on.

Follow-up experience. Started searching for a new watch, started considering the options of GPS vs. Cellular+GPS. Realized I never used the cellular option which I had paid for for years. So I immediately cancelled my current watch cellular with AT&T last week to save some money.

For the past week my watch battery remains fine, ending the day with 70-75% remaining. I don’t know if or how this is significant, but wanted to share this with you. And no new watch needed for now!

I performed the test you recommended.

  1. Charged over 16 hours to 100%.
  2. Powered off overnight for 8 hours.
  3. Powered on. Went to settings>battery. Started at 100%, in a few minutes to 99%.
  4. Normal use of watch. After 6 hours, battery dropped to 66% in a linear pattern.

It appears that this test gave a normal response.

Any other recommendations. Thank you.
