HELP! Mac keeps saying update Apple ID settings.. Also calendar doesn't sync.

Mac keeps saying update Apple ID settings - was reading other posts on this, and was told to sign out of icloud - but then I have the question do I want to keep a copy of cloud items on the computer. I'm on Ventura 13.1 but this has been happening since previous OS versions. Every time I click on the "update ID" button it leads me no clear path as to how to resolve this issue, nor does it give me any clear way to "update" my ID. I'm signed in and have signed in w/my apple ID many x, so don't know why it doesn't fully take.

Not sure on this one - does that mean everything in the cloud is REMOVED from my mac to exist solely in the cloud? Other option seems to be download EVERYTHING to mac (which won't fit, I've got over 100k in photos alone).

I know this is a glitch but the constant error message and the fact that my mac calendar entries don't show up on other devices (and I've got cloud down along with email calendars enabled so probably because of this) - is a super pain.

Thanks for any sage advice.

You can set up iCloud Photos so that when your Mac or iPhone is low on storage space, it will automatically delete full-size local copies of some of your photos in favor of space-saving versions. (Later, you can download full-size versions from iCloud, on demand.)

Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

But even with that option selected, your Mac may try to pull-down as many full-size copies as possible.

Thank you! I do have everything all signed in w my only Apple ID.

What I am asking is - to fix this annoying glitch that keeps popping up - if I sign out and sign back in again - will my mac will try to keep a local copy of EVERYTHING? I have 100k photos. And if I don't what are the consequences to the way I'm working now? What will show up? What I can't tell is the current state - I just want to keep everything the same, and I do have a lot in the cloud (but not everything). So do I choose keep everything local or put it all in the cloud..?

They're just files. Decide what folders you want to keep, maybe put them all on an external drive for security, and move forward.

You can always delete the duplicates created and copy back the data on the external drive.

At least you'll know and then you can decide exactly what to keep.

You have to make up your mind you have an "out". If I guess and it doesn't go as planned, them I'm at fault .... you decide.

Hi - deciding what to keep when signing out is not an available option - either keep or don't keep. I've read other folks querying about this specifically but no one has successfully this question. It's been called a glitch on some closed discussions. Maybe I'll need to stop by the apple store. Anyway appreciate you getting back!
