Images don't display in Mail after Big Sur upgrade

Hi,

After my mom upgraded her 12" MacBook to macOS Big Sur external images stopped displaying in Mac Mail. Here's an example:

I checked her preferences in Mail and they look correct (see below).

She didn't have this issue before she upgraded to Big Sur so I don't know what the problem is. I've looked for solutions here and elsewhere but haven't found one. Several discussions mention disabling the Block All Remote Content option but, as you can see above, she doesn't have that. And unfortunately, I have a 2020 MacBook Pro, which is too old to run Big Sur so I can't test it myself. Any ideas what the issue could be?

Here are her MacBook specs:

  • macOS Big Sur 11.5.2
  • MacBook 12-inch, 2017
  • 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Core m3
  • 8GB memory
  • 256GB hard drive

Thanks,

Brian

1 - Start by updating the existing version of Big Sur from macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 to the Current version 11.7.7

Keep your Mac up to date - Apple Support (CA)

What's new in the updates for macOS Big Sur - Apple Support (CA)

There are a lot of Bug and Security updated since version 11.5.2 which maybe related to this ongoing issue

Once achieved, test again

2 - Still issues

Apple Mail Preferences >> Privacy Tab

Uncheck any or ALL option in below image

3 - Any Third Party Security Software installed and used on this computer like Anti Virus software ?

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus

 Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus

 McAfee

Avast AntiVirus

Have verified and the Privacy tab in Mail was only introduced in macOS 22 Monterey.

My bad 🤤

Hey, no problem! 😀 That actually helps me since I wasn't sure when that tab was introduced. Now I know. Anyway, probably won't be able to see my mom until Memorial Day (May 29) so it will be a while before I have an update. I will follow-up here once we try your steps above.
