Same device different serial numbers

I'm trying to get activation lock on my ipad removed. Apple approved it but I had given them the serial number on the rear of my ipad, I've recently noticed that its different from the one that appears in itunes. Is this normal ? Are they supposed to be different ?

To find/verify your iPad’s serial number, simply sign-in to your AppleID account from any computer using a web-browser:

https://appleid.apple.com

Having signed-in, open the Devices tab. Here you will find an entry for every device associated with your AppleID; tap the related entry to see full technical details of the device - including Serial Numbers and IMEI/MEID of Cellular devices.
