Monitor not detected after trying with several cables
I have a mid-2011 iMac. Yes, it's old, but it still works. I'm trying to set up a monitor to use with it. This is the second monitor I've bought; I sent the first one back because it said there were no cables detected. Now this new monitor is doing the same. I've tried it with two HDMI cables and two different VGA cables, and it detects none of them. Is it a hardware issue? do I need to buy yet another cable? Any advice gratefully received.
I'm using the cables with either a VGA or HDMI adapter into the mini-display port.
NB I have used an external monitor before with this iMac and it worked fine. But I want a monitor of the same screen size.
The monitor is a DELL U2412Mb 24" Widescreen Ultra Sharp LED-backlit Monitor VGA DVI-D DP USB HD
