Apple camera adapter not able to carry charge through to iPad
Since the last update, I can no longer get my iPad to charge while using a camera adapter!

Several reports of issues with the Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter have been seen in recent days. Presumably you have updated to iPadOS 16.5? This issue appears to affect some users devices, and not others.
While not officially confirmed by Apple, the working hypothesis is a bug within iPadOS.
As a possible workaround, check your iPad settings:
Settings > TouchID | FaceID & Passcode > [Allow Access When Locked] Accessories - set to ON
When set to Off, this being the more secure setting, external devices connecting via the iPad Lightning (or USB-C) port are blocked while the device is locked.
