Logic Not Recording MIDI on Aux Channels

Hello community,

I noticed a problem in Logic today that hasn't happened to me before. I have an instrument track with a 3rd party plugin (Kontakt 7, for example) routed to several aux channels to record MIDI. Within the plugin, everything is routed properly - it's been working fine for years. But today when I record through those aux channels, Logic will show that it is recording, but after I press stop the recording disappears. It likewise won't even "capture record" on those tracks.

Everything works just fine using the instrument track, as it has in the past. Something to note is that it also does this with other 3rd party plugins with similar routing, not just Kontakt.

Here's a short video demonstrating the issue:

I also noticed Logic updated today (I have auto-updates turned on), so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I updated my computer to Ventura hoping that might help, but it didn't.

Hey All,

Just got off with support again. Good news is that he could reproduce the same problem on his 10.7.8 machine. Suggested another fix - get a 10.7.7 version - either by Time Machine or getting a older Logic app (in my case I had a 2019 machine that hadn't updated it yet - have it co-exist (rename or put in different folder) on same computer.

One great piece of advice is to ALWAYS backup (compress) your oldest Logic application before updating (and shut off auto updates).

For those of you without 10.7.7 I'll leave this link on for a few days. Apple should have a fix soon hopefully.

One work around I had to resort to was setting up things the "old fashioned" way - like Cubase and Digital Performer - meaning have the Midi tracks AND Aux tracks co-existing in the Main Window. This effectively doubles the real estate required for all the tracks but at least it's functioning the way I'm kind of used to. Seems like Apple is trying to push us in that direction LOL.

THis was done on 2022 M1 MBP/ OSX Monetery 12.5 and Logic 10.7.8

I then tried this on my M2 laptop which was still at Logic 10.7.7 and Ventura 13.3.1 AND IT WORKED! HOWEVER - i (stupidly) updated to 10.7.8 and it stopped working! (Same disappearing MIDI)

So, there is something in the 10.7.8 update that disables the way we like using the AUXes! This is really bad for those of us with massive templates we've been using for years! APPLE fix this bug!

Hello and thanks for this thread as I have recently ran into the same issue using Battery and Kontakt. Very frustrating. My only workaround that I've found that works for me is to open one instance of Battery for example and then record all of your midi in that channel and then right click on that midi region, go to Convert > 'Separate by Note Pitch' (my shortcut is ShiftQ) and it will give you individual channels of what you recorded. Then you can bounce each track in place or do what you choose from there individually. I hope this is helpful.

Nice - I always believed going multi-timbral was a better usage of resources however someone mentioned that multiple instances is the same if not better on the computer resources. Something to do with how separate instances distribute better over the cores. Who knows?

I did open up 10.7.7 and it all works just like it's supposed to so I'm going with that for now until Apple gets this fixed.

Cheers!

I'll avoid any comments about Apple and Logic.

It's June 15, 2023 and I am still suffering with this issue. Certainly hoping for a fix soon. Most of you will identify with having templates all set up for multi-timbral recording that are now useless because recording midi on auxiliary channels will not work.

I've tried work-arounds. The only functional way to work right now is multiple instances of whatever sample player you use for each required instrument.

I hope this gets fixed soon. Once again, I've learned the hard way. NEVER UPDATE SOFTWARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT.

TT
