Almost the same for me.

New X5 with the latest software. before 16.5 all working. After 16,.5 media works but Bluetooth calls don't work, you just get silence. If you transfer the call back to the phone via drive, you get the call.

The only change for me was the upgrade.

Did an unpair and repair - Didnt work

Did a reboot of the phone - Didnt work

Did a network reset and an all settings reset - Didnt work

Apple now advise a full recovery

@Rolo108, I have a 2015 328xi and hadn't had recent updates due to 3G discontinuation. Hopefully something sorts out for you soon. On my car prior to upgrade, bluetooth audio worked (often after manually initiating reconnection from car menu), but USB constantly disconnected. For whatever reason, bluetooth phone connection wasn't as problematic. I'd resorted to using the 3.5mm jack for audio and was looking at something like the Belkin 3.5mm audio + charger dongle so I could listen to music/gps and charge at the same time. Maybe that's a 'workaround' for you until the systems is working properly again. Good Luck!

Many thanks for your interest, even moreso for the workaround.

The thing about the former App functionality is that I did not need to do anything on my phone while driving as at least basic App control was on screen, whether it was music, Audible etc. that’s now gone and I can get that functionality on Bluetooth, but phone-only controls.

I squeaked into the 3G upgrade, but that did not help. Now, if this was done by Apple to “encourage” some of us to buy into Apple CarPlay for in-car App functionality, no BMW update will ever beat that.

I suppose my 2015 is on iDrive 4.0. When I updated my software yesterday, in addition to updating the version on "Media:" (MN-) and "Phone:" (TN-) files, it added a new file called "Add-on:" (HN-). Surfing on bimmerpost.com, these are called (MB-) (TB-) and (HB-) files for others - not sure if that's a model or country thing. Instead of "Add-on" other people's cars showed the "Add-On:" file as an "HMI:" file and some people thought it had to do with interface with phone or iPhone though I couldn't find anything definitive. Anyway, if your car isn't showing a TN- or TB- file, might still be worth updating software if that's part of the package. Here's a link to the PDF from BMW explaining the software package that I loaded. The file numbers shown in this PDF are a little different than mine. My Media file is MN-002.255.071, so maybe newer than when this was published (2018?).

@50um I appreciate you getting into this. Mine is a 2016, also ID4.

Curiously, my files are MB and TB types. A VIN check w/ BMW reports that what I have is the latest update, but I haven’t done an update via USB in a long time. Always over the air through the iDrive interface.

You’d think it should be the same, but I’ll try to find and download the actual files onto a USB drive.

There is a chance that BMW has abandoned ID4 completely; I hope not.

i am running iOS 17.1.1 and have been having both Bluetooth and hard-wired iPhone Music playback issues since iOS 16. I have a 2016 BMW M235i that does not have CarPlay.

i have tried disabling Bluetooth, changing cables (since under the Media connections on the BMW is shows “Not supported” for the USB connection?) and if I try Bluetooth it will not connect. I have tried removing and creating a new Bluetooth connection, but that has no positive effect.

What I have seen is that if I reboot my phone while connected using the USB cable, the phone will then work with the cable connection until disconnecting it.

i wish Apple and/or BMW would address this. I think iOS is the primary problem although BMW clearly has software that is limited and provides no avenue for workarounds to the iOS deficiencies.

Exactly the same problem. I have this issue on my 6/2016 production BMW 2 Coupe (F22) NBT EVO. I've first had it with iOS 16.5 on my iPhone XS Max. Tried a lot of cables for the center console USB Port. I had the Apple Original cable, I bought the BMW MFi cable, it solved nothing. All it did was it might start audio playback then get stuck somewhere, drop out. The USB option under "External Devices" on iDrive would grey out and in the following order would display "Not connected", "Reading" and then "Not Supported", finally sometimes again "Not Connected", couldn't switch back to Bluetooth. Whenever I tried to switch to bluetooth after the disconnect it would just say "Attempting to connect to Bluetooth device" (or something along those lines) and it would not do it. The bluetooth for telephone worked flawlessly. The only way I could end this cycle was reseting iDrive and iPhone but it would begin as soon as they turn on again. USB port on the center console is working fine with other devices including a USB drive with my music library is on. The car is running the latest available software from BMW, it currently on I-level F020-23-07-530 updated by the dealer and also the latest update on the https:https://www.bmw.com/update is UPD09051. The issue persists, now I have switched to iPhone 15 Pro Max and currently running iOS 17.2.1 as of today. again with different cables (Anker, BMW etc.) the same issue persists.

I hope someone will help us with this, its really frustrating...
