If you're experiencing issues with the battery in your iPhone draining faster than expected I would first recommend updating to iOS 16.5 (the latest release at this date) to see if this may fix the issue. If this doesn't help the below documents outline a few of the best ways to troubleshoot the issue.
I have seen some reports that battery life on iOS 16.4 did degrade from 16.3 so this may be related to as software bug that will likely have been fixed in future updates if not in 16.5.

Optimize your settings.
There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life — no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi‑Fi.
Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life.
- To dim, open Control Center and drag the Brightness slider to the bottom.
- Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically. To activate it, go to Settings > Accessibility. Tap Display & Text Size, then turn on Auto-Brightness.
When you use your device to access data, a Wi‑Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network — so keep Wi‑Fi on at all times. To turn on Wi‑Fi, go to Settings > Wi‑Fi to access a Wi‑Fi network.

View Battery Usage information
With iOS, you can easily manage your device’s battery life, because you can see the proportion of your battery used by each app (unless the device is charging). To view your usage, go to Settings > Battery.
Here are the messages you may see listed below the apps you’ve been using:
Background Activity. This indicates that the battery was used by the app while it was in the background — that is, while you were using another app.
- To improve battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and select Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi & Cellular Data, or Off to turn off Background App Refresh entirely.
- If the Mail app lists Background Activity, you can choose to fetch data manually or increase the fetch interval. Go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Fetch New Data.
Location and Background Location. This indicates that the app is using location services.
- You can optimize your battery life by turning off Location Services for the app. Turn off in Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
- In Location Services, you can see each app listed with its permission setting. Apps that recently used location services have an indicator next to the on/off switch.
Home & Lock Screen. This indicates that the Home screen or Lock screen was displayed on your device. For example, the display was awakened by pressing the Home button or by a notification.
- If an app frequently wakes your display with notifications, you can turn off push notifications for the app in Settings > Notifications. Tap the app and set Allow Notifications to Off.
No Cell Coverage and Low Signal. This indicates either that you are in a poor cell coverage area and your iOS device is searching for a better signal or that you’ve used your device in low-signal conditions, which has affected your battery life.
- You can optimize your battery life by turning on Airplane mode. Open Control Center and tap the Airplane mode icon. Note that you cannot make or receive calls while in Airplane mode.

Troubleshooting iPhone Battery Draining:
A. Battery Drain Info:
The iPhone battery will drain, unless it is plugged in and charging. With lots installed, the charge would be slower. As for how fast it would drain the battery, that would depend on the battery health and the volume (sound) you use.
B.. Troubleshooting the Battery:
C. Report this as a Bug to Apple:
Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue. Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.
Turning off the clean energy charging selection under battery health and charging seems to have solved the problem for me, at least at this time.

Report this, as I mentioned at the bottom of my above reply. Apple needs to me made aware of your occurrence. These are just user-to-user forums, They’ll know nothing of it, if you don’t report jt to them.
I have a 3 month old I phone 13 and after the latest update a few days ago, ios 16.5.1(c)my battery is draining about 15 percent an hour! I have turned off all background apps, turned of location as well as deleted all widgets. What is going on? I start at 100 per cent batter health at 9 am and down to 40 percent at 2pm with no call, email, texts or use? Can I uninstall the latest update???
Since I purchased my iPhone 13 after every software update the battery drains so fast (even when I am not using the phone) that I have to charge it 3 to 4 times a day. I am not watching movies or videos, I only check email now and then. The battery strength is at 100% but there are precipitous drops all day and all night even when phone is not in use and caches are cleared. Usually the phone begins to perform normally after 3-5 days. This time I don't know if it will every get back to normal. The first time it happened I was told at the Genius Bar that I should restore it to factory condition. I have had to do that with EVERY update so far. Is this really the kind of Apple performance of the future? I can't rely on my phone anymore, or my iPad which is doing the same thing. What gives? After being a long time Apple user I am beginning to wonder what is happening to this company.
I just buy a new i phone 13 7 days old but battery drain superfast how to fix it 😩
my 13 battery is draining faster after 17 update
Having the same problem. Is there anything I can do.
iphone battery is draining too fast after ios 17 update. I have still warranty pending can I change my battery?
Well then you should consider a battery replacement or you could also stop charging it fully and only charge to 80 percent so the capacity won’t go down
Again, dearest Apple, are these new iPhone13 NOT supposed to be compatible with data within, etc. Then maybe make a battery (properly priced) that CAN support ALL of these IPhone13’s abilities … please help us out, you are losing this race. ☹️. My IPhone 6 was better.🙂 S. And this my second effort trying to contact you, Apple 🍎.I am loyal but my iPhone is becoming unreliable.🥲
same here, its draining about 20% over an hour period, absolutely shocking, I cant go anywhere without a battery pack, not good when I go camping or hiking and want to take videos.
Im wondering why apple hasnt given any responce to these enquiries because the "me too" on this thread alone is quite high and there are other many threads on this issue as well as other places like quora and reddit etc
whats apple got to say about it? or are the ios updates doing causing the battery to be less effecient to make people consider upgrading to newer phone which has been proven to be the case in the past like with iphone 10 and thats why they just don't respond.
READ ON further & believe that this is an ‘arranged’ deal (2 yr phone) (w/o being told, is it at least to be “expected”??) & as others have said & explained (or who have also come to a conclusion) …. ? S
My IOS is at 17.2 too!
