Home Camera is "Off" after deleting a home

This is a software question, related to Home app (and iCloud hence).

So, I had an "old" home tech, and upgrading failed always ("some devices are incompatible" BS).

So, I DELETED my old Home, and created from scratch a new Home (on the "New" tech), as advised by Apple.

After creating the "New" home, I ran into issues with my Eve Cam, previously connected.

I reset the Eve Cam (as per Eve instructions) and added this to the Home.

The device is connected and recognised and visible and all okay in the Home app, except....

It shows NO still picture, in stead a black thing and it DOES NOT stream.

Apple says it is "Off".

But I assure you: it is on and working normally (ie it can stream).

So, I am 100% certain it's an iCloud thing.

Now what could it be? Did Apple not give me back to allocations for Cameras in my iCloud+ subscription?

It certainly looks like that.

So, I did a test: I made Homebridge non-HSV camera's, and the same (previously also working) HSV camera's.

Guess what: the non-HSV camera's work! And ALL HSV capable camera's get the same black screen from Apple.

Is there anything Apple can to to zap any camera definitions for my account regarding HSV, and please give me back the possibility to view my camera.

Or, Apple, is the problem somewhere else?

Please see below images of what I'm talking about:

Please let me know what iCloud restrictions there are on HSV camera's in iCloud, and how I can manage these (delete Camera's that are defined but not in Home app), or Apple, please delete all my HSV capable camera's and give me back my quota? Or does this happen automatically after a period of time?

Please do not tell me this can only happen "when all devices that have them defined in Home app will release them" - as I deleted the Home and should that not be enough?

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to a question I can't find the answer to (yet :) ).

So, I came across numerous posts and cries for help. After a lot of searching, I think I found the answer.

So, yes, one can set a Camera in Home into OFF mode - and then back to streaming.

Apple iCloud can do this also (I don't know what their programmatic logic is though), and not inform(!).

I was not aware of this, nor have not read about it anywhere until recently.

I'll just post the solution here for others to have/understand/know about.

  1. Launch the Home app.
  2. Tap and hold on the Thumbnail Image of your camera.
  3. Tap Accessory Details.
  4. Tap Recording Options.
  5. Tap When Home or When Away.
  6. Tap a Recording Option.

  • OFF turns your camera off. You will not be able to view your camera's live view, and it will not record activity.
  • Detect Activity will send notifications for motion events, but you will not be able to access the live view, and it will not record activity.
  • Stream allows you to view your camera's live feed, and it will notify you of motion events, but it will not record.
  • Stream & Allow Recording enables live camera feed streaming, activity notifications, and recording.
