13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program

Hello everyone!

I would like to share the information on the official Apple website: 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program - Apple Support that you should read very carefully until the end.

I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro that I purchased in December 2016 and I’ve been using it well until I’ve got a backlight issue. I have found this information that clearly says "Affected devices were sold between October 2016 and February 2018. Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service affected MacBook Pro units, free of charge.”

After I had read this part of the information, I made an appointment with Apple Store and visited to ask regarding this issue. However, they showed me the very last part of the information that says “The program covers eligible MacBook Pro models for 5 years after the first retail sale of the unit or 3 years from the start date of this program, whichever is longer.” I have found this very strange and that doesn’t even make sense, as the information is still posted on the official Apple website so that everyone can access to it and see it, including myself. Moreover, I later found out that the post was outdated, and I felt I wasted my time on making the appointment and visiting the store because I wish I had known that this information or service is no longer provided for free of charge if your MacBook is more than 5 years old.

The entire post, therefore, does not make sense that it seems at the beginning that the service is still provided which can be very confusing. I believe that this information should be updated or modified if there’s no longer service provided by Apple for those who purchased their MacBook Pros in 2016/2017 for example. Otherwise, I hope that Apple considers this service to be extended so that any devices sold between October 2016 and February 2018 are still eligible.

I hope this feedback helps to improve Apple's service.

Warmest regards from Berlin

I agree it is confusing. Unfortunately, this is not the venue to place this before Apple. The chances of an Apple employee seeing this here are sub-atomic.

This is a user-to-user setting and only a few Apple employees are here, charged solely with answering questions that linger without response. Estimates of daily posts here are anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 per days so the tiny crew of community specialists are unlikely to see this.

The gold standard for reporting this confusing document is a business letter to Apple HQ. You can also try this website feedback link but ai doubt it is as effective:

Feedback - Apple.com Website - Apple

Use the first option in the drop-down menu for "Select Feedback Category."

Some Apple documents have a "Was this Useful?" link at the end to leave comment but that page does not.

"You are thieves and crooks. Charge €2000 for a laptop that malfunctions after 5 years for which the repair is not supported.

Unnecessary comment that will not affect the decision of these enfoi*** but it feels good.

We are not Apple, and Apple will not read your comment, we are just users like you and I beg to differ with your categorizing me as a thief and a crook. But, glad you feel better.
