I notice this problem has been around for a while. It is very cumbersome to have to export the edited Photos and then drag them in to the iMovie project...

It seems to be a bug. Others have reported it as you say. Fortunately you have found the relatively easy, though a bit more cumbersome, workaround.

Why can't I directly import edited Photos into an iMovie project without losing the colour corrections etc?
