Question

AirPods 3 all of a sudden sound muffled to callers.

I use my AirPod 3’s everyday for work instead of a headset. Love them and just bragged to someone that there’s nothing that beats the sound quality for person you’re calling. Well karma got me because all of a sudden today they sound muffled to clients. Tested with wife, son and another client. They all said it sounds worse than it ever did because it used to sound great. Something is up, but what? Already disconnected and reset them. Turned iPhone off/on and soft reset. Nothing fixes it. Help!

To confirm, when you reset your AirPods, did you use the steps in the article below?

How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

If so, and they still sound muffled, try recording yourself speaking with the AirPods in using their mic in the Voice Memos app. Afterwards, play the recording back and check the audio quality. If it also sounds muffled, contact Apple Support as the headphones may need closer inspection.

If they sound fine in the Voice Memos recording but they continue to sound muffled to your callers, we'd recommend contacting your carrier at that point to confirm there isn't any issue with their network or on their end.

I have the same issue: when I call/get a call from an iPhone, the sound is great but when I call/get a call from an Android phone the sound is muffled.

Another thing worth mentioning: this happens only on my left pod, the right is fine with both iPhone and Android.

I reset the AirPods - no fix.
