video in safari

If I have a video playing in safari. And then open or change tab. The video keeps playing when I’m sure it used to pause when leaving the tab.

I’ve not long had to update software and wondered if some setting had changed. And if there was a setting I could change to stop the videos continuing playing.

any help or suggestions appreciated

Cannot pause the video with spacebar I'm using Ventura 13.4. Both on Safari and Chrome, if I use the arrow cursor on the keyboard to go forward/backward, the play bar would highlight blue around it. Then I cannot use the spacebar to pause the video anymore. I have to click on the screen to "deselect" the highlighted blue around the play bar, and then the space bar works afterward. Is there a way I can make the arrow buttons would not do this??
