120fps video files won't open on Ventura 13.4

I was working on a project with clips recorded on 120fps and 60fps, I was editing for a day and I had no issues with the footage. Then I updated to the new version of Ventura (13.4) and also updated Final Cut. After the Ventura update, when I restarted my MacBook Pro M1 Max, I couldn't play the clips filmed on 120fps.

On the finder they just appear black and you only can hear the sound, and on Final Cut is the same.

Does anyone know why is the computer not playing the files and how to solve it?

Here are some screenshot so you can see how it looks.

Thank you so much in advance.

Hello!

I joined the Apple Beta Software Programm and did the update (Ventura 13.5 Beta 2) like some of you suggested and it worked! I am not gonna lie, I was very nervous about doing it, but until now, no bugs or errors. I can play the 120fps again, on finder and Final Cut.

Hopefully the new official update will come out soon!

Thank you all for writing and making noise, it is the only way to get things done!

If you don’t have a scrap computer, much less backups to test on then you don't care about the priority of your work. Assuming things is the kiss of death when it comes to technology. So now all the people here are suddenly dead in the water and reduced to pleading for a fix.

These threads pop up every single time an update is released. When I was working it sometimes took months before the IT department updated the corporate machines. Months of testing took place to make sure work flows wouldn’t be disrupted by the update. small time operators should do no less.

Just because an update is released doesn’t mean you are forced to apply it. And users affected can use Time Machine to restore their systems to the point just before the update. Of course it all depends on having up-to-date backups that are known valid and good.

Use this experience as a learning moment. Test before updating.

yeah this is not possible on M1 macs with the new SoC chip. Backup rollbacks of the operating system are not possible using Time Machine for the same reason you can’t upgrade memory on an M1/M2 Mac. Also why you need an intel based Mac to run recovery mode. And hardly no one has an intel based Mac in their inventory. I spoke with Apple they are aware of the issue and have escalated it to their advanced techs. They are saying within a week it should be fixed. (Fingers crossed)

Thanks everyone for the heads up. I no longer shoot professionally (retired) but it's long been my policy to not upgrade any pro app, OS, or even iOS for 3 weeks after a release (assuming I'm not desperately waiting for a fix for a serious problem). It often takes a few weeks for people to find and post problems. The recent iOS even broke an Apple dongle that I rely on to connect my phone to power and hdmi at the same time. I'll leave 13.4 alone for the time being.

Finally saw this post, let me find the cause of the failure. During this period, I used the time machine backup to restore to the previous, but to no avail, the system was updated to the latest version. But I never doubted that there was a problem with the official version update. Because of this glitch, the three social media ads that need to be released this week cannot be delivered to the company's marketing department normally. This really frustrates me! Fortunately, I finally found the reason here. Thank you for posting! I also hope that Apple can solve this problem as soon as possible, it has seriously affected my production efficiency and ability!

The best option, of course, was to not install the released update until you had tested and researched for problems. Professionals never install updates on their production machines unless thoroughly tested. Professionals also never install beta software on their production machines as that could cause additional problems. If your Mac IS your business then don't install the next update without testing first and researching for problems. This is a show stopping bug for some and should be used a s a learning experience. You can castigate Apple till the sun goes down, experience outrage all you want, but NEVER trust a new update from ANY developer until you know it won’t disrupt your business and income.

Is it better to know what an update will do or is it better to just be surprised and angry when you hit the brick wall?

All I‘m hoping for is for those hit by this bug to think about this when the next macOS update comes out so you don’t get hit again. Whose fault was this bug? In my opinion, everybody. Apple failed to detect it in development, tens of thousands of beta testers failed to catch it as well while during the test period, and some users assumed/expected the update to be perfect. When it’s your livelihood assume nothing.
