MacBook Pro (Retina, early 2015) running Monterey 12.5.1 doesn't work with SuperDrive

I bought a used SuperDrive to play DVDs, but all it does is spit them out after making some noises for a few seconds.

Things I tried that did not fix the problem:

  • Cleaning the drive with a credit card wrapped with microfiber cloth dampened with lens cleaning fluid.
  • Resetting PRAM/NVRAM
  • Resetting SMC
  • Running first aid in Disk Utility
  • Holding down the Command button while inserting the disc

Ideas? Time to give up and take it to the Apple Store?

-------

Ejecting a Disk from a SuperDrive:

A. Use a Hub with External Power:

If a direct connection won’t work to eject this, then you might need an additional power. Get an adapter of sorts. Get a hub —not a splitter —with external power. You’d likely find one on Amazon.com and Newegg.com.

B. Try Using a New Administrator User:

See what happens when you create a new Administrator User and login to it and perform and eject. If it works, then it is something misconfigured in your current user.

C. Connect to a Different Mac:

Connect this to a difference Mac, seeing if you can get it to work. If you don't have another Mac, ask someone else (i.e. friend or family member) if you may use their Mac(with their permission, or course).
