MBP 2019. LG previous external disc drive worked well plug & play. Update to recent OS; now LG won't work. Bought NEW apple superdrive. Connected via multiple hub access for USB to C on MBP. Superdrive will NOT accept discs. Appears to not be receiving electrical input. Plug/unplug. Restart computer.. Restart computer and do immediate "hold option, command, P and R"... No change. Disc drive appears dead. Won't accept discs. Brand new, came this past Friday.
Thank you for reply. The hub needed to be connected directly to power to provide more power to the drive. (LG drive worked FINE via the hub). Solved by short adapter cable USB to C port (Thunderbolt) on MBP. Updates to Os, either with MBP or iPhone, often kill off either an app or an accessory. (cue the music) "Might as well face it..I'm addicted to" (Apple...)

Connect the Superdrive directly to your Mac, not via a hub. Also, since you are using a hub you probably have additional USB devices; they may in aggregate be pulling more power than your MBP can deliver.
When you are using an external bus-powered CD/DVD drive it's best to have it be the only external USB device (except for a kbd & mouse if you are using them). Better still, to have a CD/DVD drive that has its own power supply.
