Safari can't open because of a prob (macOS Big Sur 11.7.7)

Hey All-

Just updated my imac to current version of Big Sur (11.7.7), already running Big Sur just a previous version and now Safari fails to open and says,

"

Check with developer to make sure safari works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any updates fo the appliation and macOS.

Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x4] Symbol missing

Already restarted twice and did a shutdown and power on after waiting 3-5min. iMac is running current iOS, checked Systems Preferences and there is no Safari update b/c Safari isn't in the app store.

Any advice/troubleshoot is greatly appreciated (do not give me steps to restart).

Thanks.

When you click on Safari once in the Applications folder, and select Get Info, does it say the version is 16.5?

If not, then your upgrade to Big Sur 11.7.7 is incomplete. You will want to download it over again from the terminal and run the installer from the applications folder created by the download:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.7.7

from Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.

Quit all open applications before running this installer.

If it fails to work, you may need to open the website with a different browser:

Thanks for the options to fix/troubleshoot. In the end had a profile created under System Preferences (which was odd), deleted it and then backed up iMac to TimeMachine and then re-downloaded macOS back to my iMac and now Safari is able to open and is the current version of 16.5.

Also thinking it might be time to upgrade to a new iMac but that's a different conversation.

All is back to working correctly now, thanks again.

If you have the correct version of Safari, you might have an extension loaded in Safari

Safari menu -> Preferences -> Extensions

There should be none. The only reason you need an extension is for a service you know does not work otherwise, and if it really is necessary, check there are no updates through Safari menu -> Extensions

Make sure you aren't working behind a corporate or school firewall.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced might have proxy settings that could mess up Safari.
