IPad Pro 12.9inch

I’m using OS 16.5 and when using the Apple Pencil on my iPad pro 12.9inch I'm finding the movement is jittering and lagging, any solutions?

If you are seeing unexpected behaviour, try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software or performance issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

I’ve no been able to reproduce your described issue with a fifth generation iPad Pro 12.9” with iPadOS 16.5.

If the problem persists after performing the forced restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

Thank you for the solution offered, however for my iPad, which is a faceID model, the procedure didn’t remedy the problem. I had also tried shutting down and restarting from the Settings, General, Shutdown option and also by pressing and holding, upon startup, the Top Button with no correction to the problem. I am now thinking that it might be a bug in the recent 16.5 OS Update that’s causing the issue when using the Apple Pencil for scrolling and drawing. Thank you again for finding the time to give me some assistance.

Hi, thank you LotusPilot for your assistance yesterday with my iPad Pro. I read through your possible solutions and carefully thought about my my next step. I decided before I reset the settings, I would look again at individual settings within the System Settings list. I worked through until I got to the Accessibility section and found the Hover Text option was set to ON. Not wanting this I reset it to off, I then checked again to see whether my iPad was working and to my surprise the jittering and lagging had disappeared, lovely to once again have a correctly functioning tablet. Thanks again for your time.
