iPhone 6S stuck on iOS 12; Cannot update to iOS 15

I’ve been trying to update an iPhone 6S Plus to iOS 15. The problem is, the phone is marked as “Up to Date” when looking for a software update. Currently running 12.1.

The phone is definitely an iPhone 6S, as the 3D touch works and the model number checks out.

Any suggestions on how to fix? Thinking about using iTunes to download this update.

Updating an iPhone 6s Past iOS 12:
A. You can't.  The iPhone 6s will only install to iOS 12.

This statement from TheLittles is incorrect. iPhone 6s is fully supported on iOS 15, and which is also the central issue here.

To the IOS_Kid:

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, the usual cause is beta profiles. Look for and remove that.

If this is not a beta profile, back up the iPhone, connect to a Mac or PC, factory reset it, and restore the backup.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support — links there to backup and restore, too.

PS: nice allusion in your nick, too. I laughed.

A. You can't.  The iPhone 6s will only install to iOS 12. See here: Update your iPhone or iPad Software if you're Experiencing Issues with Location, Date, and Time - Apple Support. And, for the note, even if you could update, iOS 14 is no longer an option.

So, what to Try:

B. Update Using a Computer:

Have a Computer Handy? If so, try using a computer to update. Go here: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. If any updates are availabe, they will install, sure enough.

"iPhone 6S will update to iOS15, I have one.: I don't see iOS14 mentioned. Seeing the screenshot of the General, About page will settle the argument of if it is 6 Plus or 6S Plus."

iOS14:

You don't see it, because iOS14 is no longer an option for download. If you upgrade an iPhone, it only install the latest-compatible iOS version. An iPhone 7, for example, will skip iOS14 and only install to iOS15. You'll never install iOS14 on it, unless it the the iOS that is currently installed, and you perform a restore from a backup of the same iOS14 version.
