Bluetooth connectivity issues

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 16.5. Ever since iOS 12 I've had a problem with bluetooth connectivity with non-Apple devices; music or podcast will be playing and then suddenly there is no sound. Then the sound will crackle like it's "tuning in" and be back to normal. Interestingly enough, this does NOT happen with my Windows laptop and the same bluetooth devices. Any thoughts? Help? I've disconnected and reconnected (not recommended while driving, where it happens the most), checked all my settings.

I've done all of this without success. It's my iPhone that is acting up. Once Bluetooth fails, I can't return to iPhone speakers without restarting my phone.

Hello Chuggard,

If the audio is cutting in and out, that generally means the Bluetooth connection is nearing the end of its range. Bluetooth range is about 33 feet if there's a direct line of sight, if there's obstructions the range can be shorter. For example say you're connected to a Bluetooth speaker that's in your living room but you and your phone are currently in your bedroom. Since there's obstructions between the phone and the speaker (walls) the Bluetooth range will be less than 33 feet.

Set up and use Bluetooth accessories on iPhone

If you do have the phone within a short distance of the Bluetooth device and it's still having the connection issues then you'll want to check for possible sources of interference. Things like Wi-Fi routers, cordless landline phones and microwaves can cause problems with a Bluetooth connection.

If the sound from your wireless headphones cuts out or is distorted

You can also try resetting the Bluetooth system on the phone and then try re-pairing with the Bluetooth device. Just go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Cheers!
