Is it possible to mirror my iPhone to my iPad?
I can screen share to my iPad when on FaceTime but not otherwise. Is this true? Do I really have to use a third party app to mirror my iPhone to my iPad?

It takes only a few seconds to think of cases where this isnt correct- the main one is mirroring a camera to the iPad, so the director on a small crew can view the shot as it is filmed. Another example would be someone helping someone that trying to learn an app, or a parent keeping an eye on what their small kids are up to.
It also took apple a decade to create a Weather app for iPad (and they STILL havent bothered to create a calculator app)
I am having exactly the same problem. I want to be able to use my iPhone as camera on my boat so I can see what is happening behind and have my iPad as monitor at the helm when maneuvering in the marina. I don´t see why I should invest in more electronics when I purportably already have the best electronics on board which are more than capable of doing what a car reversing camera system does for the cost of another 500 quid. It also saves the installation of a data cable which requires pulling the interior of the boat apart.
I am surprised that this feature has not already been introduced by Apple, it has such a wide range of applications.
Another use case is that my phone has 128 gb of memory. My iPad has 64. My phone is also faster than my iPad. I would like to download a game on my phone and then cast the phone screen to the iPad as it has a larger screen. I can cast to Apple TV, but not to iPad. This is a mystery to me why it’s not possible. It would ad a lot of value to iPads if you could simply use it as a monitor.
Right… but there’s no reason they couldn’t be. It just another dumb limitation Apple has put in place. Then, in 2035, they’ll remove that limitation, give it a brand name and brag about it as being special.

Why not just use one of the various map apps available for the iPad directly on the ipad?
Turn on Hotspot on the iPhone and use it's cellular data for the ipad.
I'll give that a try!
That was my understanding as well. So, in this case, I'm not sure Johnathan's suggestion would truly work for MartinR, correct?
Just did, under the iPad feedback, wish I knew enough to code something myself.
Feels like I’m yelling at a wall but maybe that will land on receptive ears.
Tbf, my response was unnecessary and I’m sorry for that.
Just finding Apple infuriating lately, even for their choices I can *somewhat* understand. So the ones that seemingly no sense are just 🤯
lol! This is a weird comment. It’s a weirder setup to want in your decades old civic. Use your hotspot if you insistant on a wired setup like this.
So you use no 3rd party apps on your iPhone or iPad? Thats a waste.
Just because you can’t think of a use for it, doesn’t mean no one else has one.

You do know, I assume that iPhones are not waterproof? I would be very careful with placement.
Hi Mattheyea,
Many thanks for your reply.
I have installed the app AirDroid Cast onto my iPhone 14 and iPad Pro. Mirroring works but only with WiFi. Big disadvantage is the latency, I had to reduce the FPS rate down to 9. Picture was good when on static display but video still has extreme latency (1 sec.) and terrible picture stutter and break-ups.
I am quite aware of weatherproofing and I only intend mounting my iPhone outside shortly before entering the Marina. The after deck provides enough cover enabling a dry installation. I will probably end up with a reversing camera used on road vehicles and can be retro fitted but that means an investment of 400 quid. Advantage is they have digital wireless data transmission, so no wires to lay which is a relief - and there is no latency.
iPhone and iPad do not support screen mirroring between iOS/iPadOS devices. As many Apps are supported by the two platforms, where the same App can be run on both devices, mirroring is effectively pointless.
