CarPlay issues with 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid

I too am having issues with CarPlay connectivity ever since updating to IOS 16.5. Worked fine the day before updating and now can’t use any steering wheel buttons to control and sometimes just won’t connect at all. Very frustrating. This is NOT a Toyota issue, this is clearly from the Apple update! Please fix!

I talked with one of the service guys about it. He said all they can do is look for new firmware and install it - latest available is from 2021 last time I checked (and upgraded).

I dunno if it's worth contacting your local dealership or trying to contact corporate instead.

The crux of it is that it was 100% caused by the iOS update.

I called Brand Marketing a couple of weeks back. They said they haven't heard anything and suggested I go to the dealership. This happens every year about this time of year before a big IOS update (17). It makes your phone useless in your car. With newly passed laws, you will get a ticket for using your phone manually in hand. Right now you can't dependably make or receive phone calls or texts, use GPS listen to music from you phone....... It even locks up the radio and radio display from time to time. It is really annoying that you can't simply connect your phone to your car. It does charge it, but that is all.

I just called Toyota Brand Engagement (1-800-331-4331). They asked the normal questions. Try a different cable, try different phone, reset data and reenter phone and go to dealership. This does seem to happen every year. We are probably stuck suffering until IOS 17 comes out. Maybe if more people call, they will do something.

I am having the same issues on my 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XSE. Carplay disconnects every 60 seconds or so, and then I lose volume control ability on my steering wheel and on the main radio unit. I have to reboot my phone and the vehicle's radio to connect again with working controls, only to have it disconnect again. This is very distracting and unsafe while driving. I work at a Toyota dealership and Toyota corporate confirmed it is not a Toyota issue. We've have our technicians perform multiple tests and updates with no change. We are getting calls from Apple users the past few weeks stating they are seeing the same issues after doing the iOS 16.5 update on their iPhone. All users including myself did not have these issues until doing the iOS 16.5 update.

Apple- when can we expect an update to fix these issues?? Not only is this not practical and user friendly, but highly unsafe while driving. Many drivers rely on Carplay for everyday driving and commutes, this tool is useless if it does not perform properly, especially while traveling and needing navigation assistance.

Pretty dumb that they claim this "happens every year". I have had a Toyota for the last 5 years, and this is the first time my Carplay has done this after an update. It is an Apple issue, and they need to get it fixed. It's obvious that there is a great reliance on Carplay and the functionality of GPS, along with other applications it provides. This is causing unsafe situations while having to mess with your device as you are attempting to navigate your vehicle.

When all is said and done, I wonder if there may be some lawsuits on the horizon for Apple.

Same with me. iOS 17 didn't fix it.

This could have been a feature change or security enhancement introduced by Apple, which may require Toyota to update its device OS. I would expect the vendors to have been notified of such a change.

If that's really the case, I doubt Apple would do anything to mitigate this issue.

At the end of the day, this is an offering from Toyota, so they should work it out and provide a fix to their customers.

I bought another brand new apple cable. no help.

I disconnected bluetooth completely, and just used the usb wired for CarPlay. no help.

resets every 60 seconds.

and I once again tried "forget this vehicle" on CarPlay and rejoined, but no help.

so, until ios17 comes out, im going to just use bluetooth, not use CarPlay at all, and im going to buy a mount

for my phone. Having the dash reset every minute is too infuriating.

thanks for all the updates.

Submitted a case to Toyota. Just wanted to supply their response :

"Thank you for contacting us.

We are sorry to learn of the concern with your 2022 Toyota RAV4 regarding Apple CarPlay and appreciate your contact.

After researching your concerns with our product team, we can confirm that there are currently no known issues with our multimedia system. However, it appears that the issue may be related to the Apple CarPlay app itself. We suggest contacting Apple as they are the manufacturers and in control of the app.

Your comment has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Beth

Toyota Brand Engagement Center"

It's obvious that it's the OS, but as many times as it can be on Toyota's radar I figure the better. Maybe they can make some noise with Apple that the lowly customer can't.
