Are Apple TV still valid as a home hub in new update?

I use an iPad as a HomeKit hub which according to Apple they are now longer allowing.

When I try and update HomeKit (via iPad) a warning appears saying I need to purchase a HomePod but there is no mention as to whether Apple TV 4th Gen+ could be used as an alternative to HomeHub?

Before I go and buy an Apple TV, will they also be phasing this device as a homekit hub too, thus forcing everyone to Apple HomePod?

I cannot find anything from Apple on this topic!

Yes it should be, if running tvOS 16.5.

As to what gets phased out as a Hub in the future, we really don’t know. Apple doesn’t usually announce this. I would only suggest to you that when buying any new Apple hardware that you buy the latest so it supports future software updates as those are likely to be eventually phased out on older devices. As far as it’s known now, tvOS 17 (to be released in the fall) should support the following models:

Apple TV HD (2015)
Apple TV 4K (1st gen)
Apple TV 4K (2nd gen)
Apple TV 4K (3rd gen)
