I can not quit (close) mail on my Mac. How can I close Mail?

If Mail is still communicating or waiting on a remote Mail server to respond, it will appear to hang and refuse to quit. That's ok as the unresponsive remote server network connection will just timeout within 10 minutes and you can quit Mail normally, if it doesn't just quit on its own.
