Can't recover my iTunes playlists on new macbook M1 Ventura.

I recently bought my first macbook (OS Ventura). My main wish is to recover the iTunes library from my old iMac (Mac OS X Snow Leopard). I was able to move the entire iTunes folder to the Apple Music via a hard drive and recovered all my music files, but now I can't seem to figure out how my playlists can be recovered as well.

  • As I understood from another feed, I tried copying the 'iTunes Library.itl' file to Music/Music/ (or to Music/Music/Media, and also Music/Music/Media/Music which also contained a copied version of all my imported music).
  • If I open 'iTunes Library.itl', Apple Music pops up, but then nothing happens (There was process ongoing to sync audio, but I'm not sure it was already ongoing, or if this started because I opened the .itl file

Any advise?

With friendly regard,

Simon

Hi sibraem,

We can help with your iTunes Library.

When you create a Time Machine backup or use the Migration Assistant to transfer your iTunes library, this should include all information including your Playlists.

Here are some steps with Migration Assistant that should help you:

Transfer to a new Mac with Migration Assistant

Here are more steps that explain transferring your iTunes Library:

Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC

See if you have an option to export your playlists as XML as well, if you've already moved over your files, that might be the quicker solution for you. On the Mac with iTunes, look for an export Playlists option which should output an XML file for you.

Let us know if that helped.
