Best way to connect a mic to the computer for better audio results

Devices: Desktop mac recently updated to Ventura. Two channel M-Audio interface, Shure beta 58A microphone, Cube Roland Street II amplifier.

Intentions: get bigger and better sound for online music performance streaming and/or video-conference.

Problem: In-built mic and speaker is not cutting it. Volume is too low, unclear and unreliable, even maxed out. I have tried Mic-M-audio-Mac but it is not helping. I can record on garageband but the sound of the voice recording remains too small. I tried Mic-amp-M-audio-mac on a video-conference app and I don’t get any sound.

Am I missing something?

Hello Totoabaman,

The way to connect a microphone would depend on the type of connection it's using and the type of ports your computer has. If the microphone has a different style USB connector than your computer has, then you'll need an adapter.

For example, if your microphone is using a USB-A style connection but your computer is a model that only has USB-C ports, you would use an adapter like this: USB-C to USB Adapter

Once you have it connected up, you can use these steps to change it as the source:

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Sound in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click Input on the right, then select the device you want to use in the list of sound input devices.

Thanks for answering Jay_8, However, this is not what I meant. The microphone I have is not a USB mic and it IS connected to the Mac via the M-Audio. The issue is not plugging the mic to the computer, the question is how to make a "bigger" audio for both voice recordings and online use while on video-conferences.

I read somewhere that M-audio is not working with Ventura, but I am not certain this is the problem. The volume of the external mic is just as small as the in-built mic in comparison.

I hope this clarifies a bit?
