How to Prevent Apple Music from Auto-launching when Bluetooth Headphones are Connected?

Every time I connect Bluetooth headphones to my Mac, Apple Music opens automatically. This is VERY annoying as I don't use Apple Music and do not intend to start.

How do I stop this form occurring? I have looked through all the settings and menus and cannot find a way to disable this.

The desired behavior is when I put my headphone on, they connect with the computer and nothing else occurs. No program should open by default, no sounds should play (unless already playing or as standard with the headphones), Apple music should not open not even in the background, and no other applications on the computer should open.

Just to be very clear, I do not want Apple Music to open and want to know how to stop it from opening when I put my Bluetooth headphones on, or when I touch my Bluetooth headphones to use the touch controls.

I have been using a little AppleScript for a while.

-- This app quits Apple's Music app as soon as it launches
-- It helps you out if you don't want the music app launching every time you connect your bluetooth headphones/earbuds
set appName to "Music"
-- We create an infinite loop
repeat
-- check if the app is running
if application appName is running then
-- if the app is running is tell it to quit
tell application id (id of application appName)
			quit
-- give the app a breather, after all it just did it's job
			delay 15
		end tell
	end if
-- give the app a moment between check loops
	delay 3
end repeat

Save it as an application and add it to your login items.

Music will still launch, but will quit almost immediately (based on the delays set).

This is the most helpful suggestion.
NO app launches on it's own - other than Music.

Do not use Apple Music because of that. If this is a Marketing guidance thing it backfired.
If it is a technical issue it should be fixed.

Also, same. deleted all of my Apple Music songs from my device and removed the Apple Music app. Problem solved. Though, if I forget and leave the Spotify app open then the autoplay issue will occur again. As long as Spotify is closed, all is well.

Here is what I found working. I too faced this problem that as soon as I connected bluetooth ear buds, iphone (13) opened Music app.

In bluetooth settings, iphone provided an option to configure device type. I changed device type from Headphone (set to this earlier) to Speaker. Now I don’t see Music app getting launched automatically. I didn’t try with other device types, though

Hope it helps!

Same. This is SOOO ******* annoying. I see tons of posts about this dating back to early 2022 (been happening for me long before that). Still no update from Apple to fix.

Did Apple ever test it’s app? This is so annoying that I am seriously considering deleting all my iTunes and the music aop. Is that the only alternative? I’m not planning to continue disconnecting my devices from bluetooth when I want to put my headphones on. It’s very pushy and nervy of the music app to think I am putting on my headphoens on;y for their app and even want to use it! Fire them.
